Fun Craft Friday - Stuffed Animal

I decided to make my niece a cute stuffed animal that she could eat & play with for her first birthday. I know that ribbons are popular with kids so I thought about what I could use them for. Why not the back of a giraffe? I made my own pattern (next time I will shorten & lipo the legs a bit) on, yes, a dominoes add. Then I cut out the fabric and on one side only attached the ribbon. (be aware which way the ribbon is supposed to go so that you don't have to unpick it all 3 times.)

I did a close up on the tail ribbon. I thought it would be fun to have multiple kinds for the tail. I should've put the largest ribbon on the inside... hindsight is 20/20. I think she'll still like it.

The hardest part is sewing the 2 sides together (right sides together) because the ribbon is attached and if you look up the ribbon is in the way if you don't fold it over somehow. This one took me a little while to figure out and more unpicking.. but it got done eventually. Flip the animal right-side out. Be sure to leave about a 2 - 2 1/2 inch gap on the back so that you can put in the stuffing. Here's my tip - stuff the crap out of it!

All that's left is to sew up the back and you're done. I also hand stitched the ribbon on better because I know they will be pulled. I wanted to make it all secure and eatable. For my first stuffed animal I think it turned out great! It was meant to be a giraffe (her favorite) but at points it looked like a sickly camel and a llama. What do you think?
