Happy Birthday Harry Potter

A friend of mine throws an amazing Harry Potter party on his birthday. Which is July 31 - today.  She asked if anyone wanted to donate an item to the raffle that she has. I told her that I'd love to make a large tote with a bit of Harry Potter mixed in.

My sewing machine was being really rude - I ran out of bobbin and the thread kept snapping. I think it's time to take it in to have it serviced - but until then I needed to finish this fun project.

One way that I keep everything straight in my head is to label everything. I cut everything at once - straps, loops, inner lining, pockets and outer part of the bag. Then I will iron everything I need to iron. I then clip a paper with what it is to the fabric. That way I can step away a bit and be a mom when needed.  This was my crazy pile from last night.

I finished the tote bag just in time and had to run to a neighbor to take a picture for me.  I LOVE how it turned out. The pattern is fun, the bag is amazing and I love the hidden bit of Harry Potter love as the lining.

My most favorite part is that I made the straps long enough to be a cross body bag. There are also 2 pockets on the outside and a large pocket on the inside.  I love how this bag lays, too. It is so cute and next time I could even add a zipper. It depends on how I feel at the time.

I am pretty proud of this one. I hope to make more like this soon. It gets a little expensive with the character fabric. It's always nice to have something turn out so nicely.  Happy birthday to Harry Potter!
